A sign welcomes visitors to South Side Public Schools, framed by a stone structure and flowering trees.

Dear community,

We’re excited to keep you informed and connected with all that’s happening at South Side School. Each week, we’ll share important updates, upcoming events, and reminders. Our goal is to keep you engaged in your child’s school experience and ensure you have the information you need to help them succeed.

Voice of Democracy & Patriot's Pen Essay Contest

These contests provide students with the opportunity to express their ideas about democracy, patriotism, and what it means to be an American—while competing for recognition and scholarship awards. This year's theme is:
“How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”
The Voice of Democracy audio contest is for students in Grades 9–12. The top Local Prize is $500, along with the opportunity to advance to district, state, and national levels. Patriot’s Pen essay contest is for students in Grades 6–8. Top winners will receive a monetary award and advance to further competitions and awards at higher levels. Winners from each contest will read their essays at the Veterans Assembly on November 10th this year.   Deadline to submit entries for both contests: October 17, 2025
Applications and contest guidelines are available through your Social Studies teacher or Mrs. Nelson.

PTSO Volunteer Meeting

PTSO will meet on Monday, September 22, at 5:15 pm in the High School Library. This is not the Parent Meeting for Royalties. We will discuss Fall Festival event details and planning. Also, we invite anyone interested in becoming an officer to join us for a visit. Jenny Jones and Annalisa Hall have decided that after the Fall Festival this year, they will resign from their positions. They will still help, but not in an officer role. Four years of raising over $35,000 each year have been fun, but they believe it is time for a change. New volunteers can be guided through some of the current methods to make for an easier transition. They are both so happy to have served in these roles and to have had the opportunity to support our students and teachers. A new group with fresh ideas and a new outlook on the program will be fantastic!

Did You Know...?

Our school counselors, Mrs. Lovell and Mrs. Wilson, serve all students at South Side Bee Branch. Students are encouraged to contact them with any problems as many times as needed. When students need mental health therapy, our counselors can refer them to one of these agencies. Please see the attached flyer below for more information.
